Katzelkraft Christmas Challenge week 1: CAS

The challenge is to make a clean and simple (CAS) card. I used the letterpress technique and green distress ink. I stamped a greeting on patterned paper, drew faux stitching and made a small tag. I added a few gold enbossed stars and a gold string bow

Yesterday my son turned 10! He's getting big so quickly.
I made him a card to remind him of his trip to South Africa in December and his visit to the Game Parks.

I masked and sponged the oval with Distress inks (Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge, Crushed Olive). I then stamped the baobab tree with Pumice Stone. The lion I stamped onto the card and made a second one to cut out and mount with 3d foam . After adding more distress inks, I added a little embossing to the mane. The twine is from my stash.

Here's the birthday card I made for my friend Corien. I cut 2 Tim Holtz tags and embossed the white one in my Big Shot and then covered it with Inca Gold purple. I embossed a small piece of vellum and placed it behind the white frame, then stitched beads to the sides and into the lace. A ribbon on the top and the metal flower and all was done. As always, inspiraton form the blog of Godelieve Tijskens (Stamping Mathilda)

Metal flower birthday card

This one is for my friend Elly, who celebrated a 'big' birthday recently.
The background was made in the same way I described the faux metal of yesterday. Metal flowers were stamped with Stazon, then I played with them, making them 3D. Glue was added to the edges of the big flower en thin metal foil was applied. A Paper World pen was used to add the green spots.

Love card

I made a non traditional Valentine / Love card for xxxx (can't say yet)!
Background: Cuttlebug folder covered with bronze pigment ink, sprayed with water and then run through theCuttlebug. It makes a lovely faux metal finish on the background.
MS hearts stamped with Versamark and embossed with bronze, coloured in with yellow and orange Tombow markers. The hearts on the card were embossed with bronze as well. I added 2 ribbons from my stash and reinforced the inside of the card: the wet ink mixture makes it stretch!

Template cards

I went to a workshop at Joan Gevaert in Ede where we made a number of cards using template sketches. I don't find this easy to do, so was quite pleased with the results. No stamping: also something different for me! We used all the dies from the shop, so I had a ball trying out Tim's designs!

Used/ Gebruikt:

Tim Holtz: Tattered Florals, Sizzix butterfly, patterned paper and lace. I cut out lace wings for the butterfly too!

The next card has much the same elements as the first, I liked the colour scheme!

The last card has different patterned papers and I used a white gel pen to"'stitch' a line around the red card. A bit of ribbon and it's finished. I won't tell you how long it took to decide what I was going to do!

Magnolia Birthday Card

My friend Ineke, loves Magnolia and Tilda, so I made her this for her birthday last week. It's rather different to my usual style! My sister Tricia was here and helped me with the patterned papaers, I have very little experience with them! I made canvas flowers with Tim Holtz's tattered flowers die and stamped on them and inkend them with distress ink. I then distressed them by hand - picking at the edges

This one is dark brown cardstock, stamped with the Hero Arts lace background and colorbox white ink. Paper lace, distress ink, a stamped cricut flower and ribbon complete the box. I also stamped the inside of the box

I won this box design for the SCAL from Carla's blog. I made the box for her blog but with a friend in mind. I put her birthday present into it :) First I stamped and coloured my paper with glimmer mist and distress ink, then cut it out with the cricut. I then folded the box pieces, stamped and embossed the top and inside and then matted them.

My first challenge card for the "Katzelkraft 10 weeks before Christmas challenge". You make 3 cards a week according to the instructions. This one is to make a card without using any Christmas stamps (except for the text). This card was inspired by the fantastic Godelieve Tijskens (StampingMathilda)

Another Thank you card. This one has an ecoline background (go to Stamping Mathilda - Godelieve has the most amazing tutorials about ecoline ink- and don't forget to look at her gorgeous blog!). I stamped over the ecoline and then used white, silver and gold pencils to colour in the poppies and butterfly. Faux stitching applied with a white pen.

A thank you card I made for a friend. I used the Hero Arts stamp 'Thinking of you' - and removed the inside from the cardstock with a sharp knife and scissors. I als distressed the edges a little. I then traced the cut out hole onto the blue card and freehand extendend the border. Then I traced the original hole onto the caard itself and cut thay out too. Complicated but rewarding result after putting the 3 pieces together. The blue border is now visible inside and outside on the card! I stamped the thank you inside the hole and it was finished.

Een bedankje voor een vriendin. Eerst de Hero Arts 'Thinking of you'op een kaart gestempeld en de binnenkant verwijderd. De renden met distress inkt bewerkt. Daarna de template op de blauwe cardstock overgenomen en met de vrije had aangepast. Daarna ook de kaart zelf uitgesneden- dezelfde formaat als de bovenste cardstock. De blauwe is dus zichtbaar van zowel binnnen als buiten de kaart. Bedankt in het midden gestempeld en het was klaar.

Hi Everyone,
Just to let you know I'm still alive and breathing. I have been super busy at home and work since I last posted anything. Unfortunately there are still only 24 hours in the day and sometimes I do have to sleep!
Here's a recap of some of the highlights of the last few months and then I'll post some of my cards! I have a whole lot of photos in stock ...just had to download them and put them on the blog!
Let's see:
January: I won the Katzelkraft Special K challenge and received my prize this week, so will put a photo of the wonderful box up for you to admire.
I'm doing lots of reorganizing at work, have new challenges and am loving it! Sometimes work does come home with me though....
I also did a whole lot of thinking for my Stamping Group - coming up with new challenges and fun stuff for us to do this year.
Fell on the ice and injured my back, couldn't sit for days.

February: My sister came to visit for 2 days. We went to the Art Journey Day in Sleen, will blog that too! A great weekend spent visiting every craft shop we could get to in a short space of time and yak, yak, yakking all the while! Also, got 2,5 weeks notice to prepare 2 major presentations for work. They went off well and hopefully I'll have some good news about that soon. I have been invited to go and give my presentations in Sweden...

March: Got nominated to become a Youth Coach for the golfclub. I have a 2 day course and exam later this month. Accompanied my son to various sporting events in the last few weeks, the weekends have been busy and are likely to remain so until July! Next week I'm off to Lausanne in Switzerland for 2 days. It's for work! I do hope we get some time to look around, it's very pretty there I'm told!
Still having back problems from that fall, the last 10 days have been very painful, I can't sit at all! Treatment has been initiated, so lets hope it dies down quickly!

Right, onto the crafting stuff then...

This was an unusual challenge: stamp on sandpaper. I found ochre red sandpaper in the tool cupboard and stamped on it with stazon ink.

Dit was en ongewone challenge - stempelen op schuurpapier. Ik heb oranje-rode schuurpapier in ons gereedschap kast gevonden. Hierop heb ik met stazon inkt gestempeld.

Taylorism: Production efficiency methodology that breaks every action, job, or task into small and simple segments which can be easily analyzed and taught.

So, using a craft sheet and inks, you ink 2 A4 sheets of paper and then use them to make cards. Click HERE for Beatrice's excellent instructions. I used distress inks in blue and purple with autumn leaves glimmer mist - intersting colour combination! I used wallpaper as the mat.

Here's the background, you can't see it very well on the finished card. I stamped with Versamark and coloured it aall in with chalks.

Hier is de achtergrond, het is niet erg zichtbaar op de afgemaakte kaart. Ik heb met Versamark gestempeld en ingekleurd met chalk.

Katzelkraft challenge catch-up Week 6 Card 2: include metal

I have a lot of cards to catch up on the Katzelkraft Challenge, so I'm starting my cards for next year already. Yes I am nuts!

I glued aluminium foil onto a piece of card and cuttlebug embossed it.

Ik nog veel kaarten in te halen voor de Katzelkraft challenge, dus besloot ik om alvast wat kaarten voor volgende jaar te maken. Je kunt nooit te vroeg beginnen toch? Ja ik ben wel een beetje gek!

Ik heb hier een stukje aluminiumfolie op kaart geplakt en met de cuttlebug ge-embossed

Merry Christmas everyone. It was snowing when we woke up, so we had a real white Christmas. Unfortunately it's raining now and all the snow is melting. Katzelkraft Challenge Week 5 Card3: Unusual Christmas colours

For this challenge, we were not allowed tu use the usual Christmas colours of green, red, blue, silver or gold. I used purple and white.

For deze uitdaging mochten wij geen traditionele kleuren gebruiken: goud, silver, rood, groen, blaauw. Ik heb paar en wit gebruikt.

9 weeks until Christmas Week 2 Card 1 - pop up

I just finished the pop up card for week 2. I made a Christmas tree pop up using the Robert Sabuda technique. I decorated the inside with stamping, embossing and stickles and punched the edge with a Fiskars punch.

Ik heb net mijn pop up kaart voor week 2 gemaakt. Ik heb het techniek van Robert Sabuda gebruikt. De binnenkant isversierd met stempelen, embossing, sticles en de randen met een Fiskars pons.

8 weeks until Christmas Week 3 Special K Card - coloured tissue

Today the Special K challenge: a coloured tissue background. I sprayed a piece of tissue paper with water and then dropped black parker ink onto it, together with silver and gold inks. I then sprayed more water onto the tissue paper with a mini mister to make it run more, then heat dried it with my hairdryer.

Vandaag heb ik mijn Special K gemaakt met een gekleurde tissue achtergrond. Ik heb een groot stuk papier nat gemaakt, daarna druppels zwarte parker inkt, goud en zilver inkt opgedruppeld. Daarna weer nat gemaakt met een mini-mister. Ik heb het toen gedroogd met mijn gewone fohn.

9 weeks until Christmas Week 2 Special K Card

The challenge this week is to use the soot technique. Stamp an image on glossy cardstock (not photo paper - it burns) with versamark. Then overheat it (about 3 min) - be careful you don't burn the paper! Then, using a candle, flame the entire image until it is pitch black. Be very careful, the card catches fire very quickly!. Then using a soft cloth, wipe off the soot. If all's gone well, you will have a lovely sooty image. Spraying it with a fixative is optional.

De challenge in week 2 was om de 'roet' techniek te gebruiken. Stempel op glans papier (niet foto papier, het brand!) met versamark inkt. Nu moet je het oververhitten - ongeveer 3 min. Pas opdat het papier niet in gaat branden! Nu, met behulp van een kars moet je het papier vlammen en goed zwart maken. Pas op dat het niet fikt!!. Gebruik nu een zachte doek om de roet te verwijderen. Als alles goed is gegaan heb je een mooie roet afdruk. Desgewenst kan je het met een fixeer spray behandelen.

This is my second card for the Katzelkraft challenge, the theme is transparency I recycled a piece of packing plastic for this.

Dit is mijn tweede kaart voor de Katzelkraft challenge. We moesten een kaart maken met iets transparants. Ik heb eeb stukje verpakkingsplastiek hergebruikt hiervoor.

Katzelkraft Challenge Week 1:

There are 4 challenges:

1. The sketch:

2. Use something transparent

3. Use stitching on the card

4. The Special K: dry (cold) embossing, with superimposed tags.

This is my very first challenge card! I haven't followed the sketch exactly, I hope that's OK! After I'd made the black card, I was interested to see what it would look like in the reverse colours - so I made another one!

Katzelkraft Challenge Week 1:

Er zijn 4 uitdagingen:

1. Gebruik de skets boven

2. Gebruik iets transparants

3. Gebruik stiksels op de kaart

4. De Special K: maak een embossed achtergrond (niet met embossing poeder) maar zoals met een Cuttlebug. Maak een aantal tags en leg die op de kaart.

Dit is mijn eerste challenge kaart. Ik heb de sketch niet helemaal gevolgd en hoop dat het zo acceptabel is. Eerst heb ik de zwarte kaart gemaakt en was nieuwsgierig hoe het in het wit eruit zo zien - dus heb ik het nog een keer gemaakt!

Katzelkraft 10 weeks to Christmas

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I took on a new challenge. Over at the Katzelkraft forum http://katzelkraft.actifforum.com/index.forum Beatrice Katzele is running a great challenge.
What do you have to do:
Make 3 Christmas cards a week according to her challenge. You can also do 1 extra card a week according to her 'Special K challenge' If you manage to make the 30 cards or/and the 10 Special K cards by December 31st, you will then receive a K-do (Katzelkraft gift) and be entered in a draw for a big prize :).

You don't have to do ALL the cards, you can do just some of them. You can also make cards out of sequence - ie you can make one challenge a few weeks later and just add it to your own little gallery.
You don't have to use only Katzelkraft stamps - any stamps as long as they are Christmas.

Of course they do love to see their own stamps, so to help you, there is a surprise for those who join the challenge - but I'm not going to tell you what! Go and JOIN!

Hi Everyone,
I have finally taken the step and made my own blog.
Isa, Trish -it's time to faint!
